When he left the hospital, he looked at the photo, posted on the front gate, of a boy some Nazis had put in a coma. The boy was the same age as he was and smiled at the camera.
He bought a couple of boiled eggs and a cup of coffee on the street. He returned to the hostel. No one had noticed anything. He lay down on the bloodstained mattress and slept. The painkillers made him hallucinate."
