"He asked me why I wanted to enlist and what goals I had in life. I told him the answer to those two questions was one and the same: I felt the duty to defend my nation from foreign aggression. The Colonel looked at me with a pen in his hand and asked if I was a peronista. I told him that peronismo was a symptom of my country’s moral degradation. The Colonel stamped my application and told me I would receive a telegram in a couple of days. I came forward to shake his hand."

From the story How I Met the Sefraditas, by Luciano Lamberti. Translated by Kate Newman and Rodrigo Fuentes.
